 BackgroundWingler's White Oak Kitty Hawk is an intact female born in 2010.  She lives with her owner on a farm in Virginia and was evaluated going on two years of age.  Kit works daily with chickens and ducks and several times a month with dairy goats.  She has been to two herding clinics with her owner where she worked flighty sheep.  Kit has her own agenda, but quickly gives it up to work in partnership with her owner.   Her owner would like to correct her stubbornness and independence.  It is easy to teach her what to do, but harder to teach her what not to do.
 Summary of Working Traits

Herding Drive:  Works livestock readily when needed (thinks working chickens is boring).

Herding Style:  Driving but will definitely hit heads when needed.

Power:  Livestock are intensely aware of and respect dog at all times.

Stock Ethic:  Dog maintains control appropriately, without causing undue stress in livestock.  Her youthfulness sometimes causes the livestock to scatter, but she responds well to correction.

Responsiveness, Biddability:  Somewhat responsive to guidance, control - She's responsive when telling what to do, but stubborn when telling her what not to do.

Approach:  Close, but adjusts as necessary.

Eye:  Medium (more intense concentration but often upright and free-moving).

Bark:  Force barks (fairly quiet but readily barks to move stubborn stock)

Bite Frequency:  Sometimes.

Bite Location:  Above the hock, ear.

Bite Appropriateness:  Bites as needed

Bite Intensity:  Nips rather than bites. 

Orientation:  Livestock second to owner.

Territoriality:  Kit considers her boundary to be the farm and the neighbors on either side.  She never wanders more than just out of site.

Patrol:  Constantly patrols territory.

Warning:  Usually barks to warn of unusual situations.

Defense of Property:  Defends owner's property.

Defense of People:  Protects owner, "watches your back".

Tracking Ability:  Will track by scent and find prey.

Predators:  Kit has never had to deal with predators

Attitude towards newborn stock:  Shows gentle and/or protective nature.

Pest Control:  Routinely hunts for rodents. 

 Summary of Structure
Kit is of average build, leaning toward being stocky, and has a long tail.  She moves smoothly and effortlessly with a preferred gait that is a slow trot.  Kit has average ability to maneuver quickly with limited jumping ability.  Her coat is low maintenance with a thick undercoat and slightly wavy, medium/short length hair.  She has a scissors bite.
 Summary of Temperament
Kit is confident, sociable, and mild mannered around unfamiliar adults.  She is devoted, watchful, and affectionate with her family.  She likes to be where they are, but is not necessarily in their laps.  Her activity level isn't demanding.  Kit has a very calm, very steady, hard disposition.
