Dam:  Concharty Lady McKenzie

Sire:  Taulman's Tri Shooter

  Owner Michelle Richardson

Sam is a two-year old intact male living on a ranch in Oklahoma.  He has been tested for MDR1 and the results are N/N.  Sam has daily contact with horned cattle, goats, horses and chickens.  He is a happy, joyful dog ready for any adventure.  Sam is confident and outgoing toward all people, but he has a special affinity for children.  He's always looking for ways to be helpful.  Sam takes the care of baby livestock very seriously.  He's very athletic at a perfect size at approximately 58 lbs., 24 in.  Sam is very bonded and nurturing to baby livestock and has helped raise several bottle-baby goats.

Sam was selected as the most independent and confident pup in his litter.  The downside to that is he thinks he knows more than his owner about handling livestock.  His bossy nature sometimes causes issues.  His owner would like him to alert more strongly to humans.  A good, strong, alert bark at visitors would be nice.  Sam is registered with the ESCR, UKC and AWFA.  Also, Sam has received his Canine Good Citizen award.

 Summary of Working Traits

Herding Drive:  Works livestock readily when needed (needs maturity - a bit quick to move stock to show who is boss)

Herding Style:  Gathering (naturally attempts to head off/circle stock, move it to handler) (Can drive but needs encouragement.  Often drives one at a time as owner's cows scatter)

Power - Dog's Presence  on Livestock:  Livestock generally respect dog

Stock Ethic:  Dog maintains control appropriately, without causing undue stress in livestock (Tends toward more aggressive, but is working with tough stock)

Work Ethic:  Will work independently as necessary (maturity needed to stay with the job)

Responsiveness, Biddability:  Somewhat responsive to guidance, control (Very biddable without stock - more opinionated when stock is involved)

Approach:  Moderately wide and close (typically works very close)

Eye:  Loose (generally upright posture, free-moving style, less intense focus)

Bark:  Force barks (can get frustrated with really stubborn stock - then will bark until owner helps move stock what has decided to fight)

Bite:  Sometimes

Bite Location: Above hock, tail and nose (sometimes will grip front leg of goats only)

Bite Appropriateness:  Bites as needed

Bite Intensity on Stock:  Adjusts as needed (The goats sometimes wiggle out of his front leg hold.  Owner has seen him grip and hang off a buck goat that got aggressive.)

Orientation:  Leans towards livestock second to owner

Territoriality:  Respects boundaries, stays home

Patrol:  Patrols territory (would patrol more if allowed)

Warning:  Always barks to warn of unusual situations (or goes to get owner)

Defense of Property:  Will defend owner's property

Defense of People:  Will protect owner, "watches your back" against stock

Tracking Ability:  Will track by scent and find prey

Predators:  Will always drive off predators

Attitude Towards Newborn Livestock:  Shows exceptional gentle and/or protective nature

Pest Control:  Routinely hunts rodents (raccoons, opossums)

 Summary of Structure
Sam is average build with a long tail.  His movement is smooth and effortless.  He has very fast speed, excellent maneuverability and gravity defying jumping ability.  Sam is able to move quickly and easily between working with tough cattle and working with chickens.  He breaks up fights between the livestock.  His coat is low maintenance (Teflon) and good quality.  He has a scissors bite.
 Summary of Temperament

Sam is confident, friendly and mild around unfamiliar (non-threatening) adults.  He is very devoted and affectionate with his family.  Sam has a very calm, steady disposition.  He is softer to corrections by owner, but hard in regards to injury by livestock.
